Vase Summer 1926
ABOUT THE PRODUCT
author: Anna Polanská
year of creation: 2018
This tall vase of hand-blown and cut glass is inspired by the study of regime change and memories of the Czech Republic in the interwar period. The paintings of Czech cubist painter Josef Čapek served as a challenge and inspiration for this work. Just as the painter shapes reality with his brush until the last moment, Anna Polanská does so with her ideas until the last piece of glass is placed and polished.
Precise hand-cutting makes this vase a unique and unrepeatable original.
material: densely shaped cut glass
dimensions: 40 x 20 cm
Anna Polanska's glass objects are solitary works developing an artistic vision based on exploring the possibilities of the cutting technique. They have a natural, organic and elemental effect, not artificial and predictable. Not only their form but also their character changes with the angle of view. In interaction with the viewer, they behave like living entities, because they are not decorated with abrasive, but wrinkled.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Anna Polanská studied glass engraving and later at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague she studied sculpture and glass in architecture. She explores the material not only in her own artistic practice, but also as head of the glass cutting and melting department at the Secondary Industrial Glass School in Železný Brod. Her main interest is in sculptural vases and other vessels. Her initial work with roughly carved pieces of glass has been somewhat tamed in later collections and shows an interest in nature and its ephemeral substances, such as the sky and vegetation. The unique shapes and worked surfaces serve not just as decoration but as an expression of being.
