Vase Born in flames
ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Design: Daniela Vrabcová Chodilová / Laokon
Dimensions: 25 x 16 cm
The vase was made using traditional glassmaking. Combination of charred wood and glass. The crystal glass in a symbiotic or parasitic relationship with charred wood as a symbol of time line, death and birth is inspired by artistic symbols of human activity in the forest.
Charred wood attacks the visual perceptions of man. Most of us like to go to the forest, which is a source of life but also an elementary kind of rest.
Thanks to the warming of the earth, coniferous monocultures and bark beetles, forest fires are becoming more frequent. This wood does not yet find many consumers, yet its charred layer acts as a preservative and has a long life with a reduced risk of fire.
The material combination of the texture of charred wood and glass is the story of the cycle, because even glass would not be glass without ash.
All of the wood in the Born in Flames collection comes from forests and woodlands damaged by fire that would otherwise have no consumer use.
ABOUT THE BRAND
The Czech brand Laokon was established in 2020 with the aim of producing quality contemporary art glass at the border between art and design. They work and are based in Prague and Nový Bor, where all glass is produced.
It all starts with an original design, which is consulted with glass artisans before it comes to the actual production. In many cases, however, glass is its own factor that surprises and forces experimentation. Your interiors and desire to differentiate yourself inspire this brand to create something exceptional, with lasting value.
