About the book:
The well-known story of the transformation of Gregor Samsa into a beetle is complemented by a total of four lithographs by leading Czech artist Petr Nikl, which depict the hero's gradual metamorphosis by capturing the transformation of the eyes that look at the reader throughout the story.
Each piece is an original:
Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis and the question of how to grasp the work in such a way as to materialize the simple text, to transfer the mood to the reader through sensations other than the story itself and literally draw him into the story.
The moment Petr Nikl created the first set of lithographs of eyes that follow a person throughout the story, it was clear that the intention would succeed.
The uniqueness of the new edition of Proměny is also underlined by the original design of graphic designer Johana Kratochvilová from Signatura studio and the precise handcrafting of the book, which makes each piece an original. The entire book is printed on premium Fedrigoni paper, whose velvety surface gives the reader a pleasant sensation of touch. Thanks to a special laser-cutting technique, the book's cover has managed to convey a "feeling" of transformation through a carved organic motif. The cover of the book is covered with linen, in which the title is stamped, and the colour combination of the linen and the cover further enhances the darkness of Kafka's text.
