ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Karel Votipka (1964) is a leading Czech jeweller known for his extraordinary inventiveness and imaginative approach to jewellery. His specificity is the unique cut of stones and precise craftsmanship. He works with a wide range of metals from surgical steel and titanium to precious metals such as gold, platinum and silver. Karel Votipka is one of the few jewellery makers who searches nature for the stones themselves, which he is able to identify and find in their raw state thanks to his knowledge of geology. He then cuts and inserts suitable minerals and stones into jewellery. Karel Votipka's jewels are unique solitaires and each of them is an original chamber sculpture. His work has received considerable international recognition, most notably in a New York exhibition with gallerist Helen Drutt in 1999. His brooch is owned, for example, by Madeleine Abright, former US Secretary of State.
