In the diversity of life, we have no choice but to choose just a fraction that we can encompass. In the last 15 years, Jindra Viková has dealt with the theme of the animal world, the creatures we live with and yet either do not perceive them at all or only peripherally. In the 1990s she began to create mutants, creatures that integrate human and animal features. Since then, she has continuously returned to themes inspired by the animal kingdom, now in her latest series BROUCI. While we have our hard skeleton inside, we are rather soft by design, the beetles have it backwards. The hard case perfectly smoothed, polished and colored and they are soft on the inside. Jindra Vikova's BROOMS is an attempt at a convergence between the world of humans and the world of bugs as perceived from the position of her curiosity.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jindra Viková is an academic sculptor, ceramist, painter, curator and teacher. After high school she studied at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in the studio of Otto Eckert. She first worked in applied ceramics, then in ceramic and porcelain sculptures and spatial objects. She has been a guest lecturer at several American universities and has had many exhibitions around the world. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics based in Geneva (AIC). She has won numerous international awards for her figurative sculptures.
